A dynamic 18-hole layout designed by Kyle Franz, Karoo features rugged aesthetics with wide fairways, multiple routes to pins, and bold green contours. Varied tee boxes give players a fresh look at the course’s features each time they play. Thoughtfully planned, Karoo rewards creative short-grass recovery shots around the greens. Golfers will encounter Sandhill Cranes throughout their round on this 7,201-yard design—these elegant birds are known to dance and sing, and their call is a loud trumpeting sound that is often described as a rolling karoo.

Course Map

Hole 1

Your eye might get drawn to the elaborate network of bunkers while you stand on this first tee, but focus instead on all the short grass that adorns the wide fairway.

Hole 2

The undulations on this hole make it the toughest par on the front. Though its fairway is generous, much of its left half is hidden from view from the tee.

Hole 3

One of the most handsome spots on the course, the tee affords a striking view of the distant green nestled in its own bowl.

Hole 4

A famous split fairway hole, the right fairway beckons when the hole is back right.

Hole 5

Look for the flag and if it is on the left side of the green, play down the left. If it is on the right, play down the right. The green flares up along the rear, so if you’re between clubs, it pays to be a bit long and let your approach feed back onto the putting surface.

Hole 6

The benefit of playing to the higher, left fairway is that you are afforded a grand view for your second shot. Plus, your tee ball is likely to receive a big kick forward.

Hole 7

A three-foot-deep swale divides the green into a left and right plateau—figuring out how to have your tee ball end on the same area as the flagstick is your big task.

Hole 8

If the flagstick is right, favor the far right side of the fairway to have the best approach angle. Otherwise, play a fade off of the visible, bare mound at the crest of the fairway.

Hole 9

A fade around the right fairway bunker will serve you well on this hole, and be careful not to drive through the fairway.

Hole 10

A graceful hole, the putting surface is surrounded along the right and rear by short grass, so that is where your misses should be.

Hole 11

The tee you are playing from goes a long way in dictating which route to take. Favoring the right side of the fairway leads to a shorter approach shot into the green, but that side of the fairway is narrower and not entirely visible.

Hole 12

Enjoy the breathtaking view from this elevated tee box. A long, straight tee ball sets you up for an uphill approach over a formidable network of bunkers to a medium-size green that sits in its own, lovely pocket.

Hole 13

You might feel tempted to bite off as much as you can with your tee shot, but prudence carries the day. It’s best to favor the left-center of the fairway since the medium size green opens up when approached from the left.

Hole 14

Visually intimidating, this par 5 favors steady play over heroics. Your first task is to hit the fairway—any part of it works well.

Hole 15

If the hole location is toward the back third of the green, favor the right side of the fairway off the tee—you will be rewarded with a straightforward pitch up the length of the green.

Hole 16

As you can see while standing on this tee, short is no good, so take enough club.

Hole 17

A potential birdie hole, this short par 5 meanders uphill, culminating in a green that angles from high left to low right and that accepts a chasing approach shot that feeds in from the left.
